Write a brief

Good prompts name the role, the range, the city, and one or two must-haves.

SARAL is only as sharp as the brief you give it. Write the way you would brief a sourcer sitting next to you. Specific, short, and honest about what is required versus nice to have.

After Find Talent, you will review Active Filters. A clean sentence makes that screen easy.

Include four things when you can:

  1. Role (the job, not a department)
  2. Experience (years or seniority)
  3. Location (city or region if it matters)
  4. One or two must-haves (a stack, a domain, or a leadership ask)

That is enough. A novel is worse than a paragraph.

Backend engineer in Bengaluru, 4-7 years, Python and AWS, has owned APIs in production at a product company
HR business partner, Pune, 6+ years, manufacturing or industrial, comfortable with plant leadership
Founding product designer, remote from India, 3-5 years, has shipped 0-to-1 mobile apps, B2B SaaS a plus

Why these work: a human could source from them tomorrow. The must-haves are testable against a profile.

Side-by-side of two search boxes: a specific Bengaluru backend query with clear Review filters, versus a one-word Developer query with almost nothing extracted.

Good query versus a vague one

Must-have versus nice-to-have

Put must-haves in the sentence. Must have led a team. Needs CFA. Only people already in Jaipur.

Put nice-to-haves in softer language. SaaS a plus. Fintech nice to have. Those land under Other Criteria. They move people up or down instead of wiping the list.

Location is the exception. If you name a place as the place they must be, people outside it drop out. See How it works.

Skills: name a few, not twenty

Three real skills beat a résumé dump. React, TypeScript, Next.js is a product frontend. React, Node, Python, Go, Java, C++, Kubernetes, Terraform, Figma is a wish list.

If the JD is a wall of tools, upload it and then edit the filters so the search still has a point of view.

Copy-paste starters

Data analyst in Hyderabad, 2-4 years, SQL and Excel, has supported a sales or ops team
Mechanical design engineer, Ahmedabad, 3-6 years, SolidWorks, sheet metal, worked with vendors
Inside sales / SDR, NCR, 1-3 years, B2B, comfortable with 40+ dials, English and Hindi
Engineering manager, Bengaluru, 8+ years, has run a team of 6 or more, shipped to paying customers

After you run it

Read the filters on Review. If they look wrong, change the words. Do not add a second contradictory sentence.

Then read the results. If the top ten are close but not quite, refine instead of starting from a blank box.
